Many things come in threes, so they say. Like atoms that contain electrons, protons and neutrons. The primary hues in white light: red, green & blue. And even prayers include three things: your mind, voice, and heart energy. So let’s see why I have a part three for my ‘You see what I can see?’ blogs.
The Hague
When I was living in The Hague, I really enjoyed the beach. And even though we do have many beaches in The Netherlands, I never associated my home country with a country where you could easily and nicely go to the beach. Spain, Italy, Indonesia – yes, of course. But not The Netherlands. Then again as said before, I really enjoyed it. Especially in Summer, when the kite surfers were filling up the air and your brain could fool you that you were living in this Mediterranean place; with sandy restaurants, and a much lower pace, because of the heat.
Beach Volleybal
I rented this studio, which was technically in the city centre, and twenty minutes away from the beach, by bike. And I knew from the start that I could rent the place for max two years – as so many people need to do nowadays. But I tried to get the most out of it. So I went to the beach as much as I could and felt like. Thus when it was sunny, when I grabbed food with friends and family, or when I enjoyed my ice cream, while I was watching people playing beach volleybal, with the sea and the sun behind them.
Imagining
Since I had to leave my small but nice studio at some point, I would often sit on some stone stairs – with my feet on the sand – and be fully aware of the sea view and my surroundings. Really enjoying them, but also imagining what it would be like if I had an apartment behind me – with that same amazing sea view. I could really imagine it, since I was already sitting there – in the flesh.
But apparently my home town – Amsterdam, as you might know – was calling louder for me. I finally didn’t stay in The Hague, since I got an offer to rent a great place in Amsterdam. So I said goodbye to my life in The Hague, and the possibility of living near the beach.
Enchanted
But this is blog number three of ‘Can you see what I see?’, so there must be some twist, right? Turns out that one of my ex-colleagues – from ages ago, whom I met by accident, after so many years – got enchanted by the idea of living in The Hague when I told her that I was actually living there (she was living in a different town, like 50 kilometres below The Hague). So we had lunch at the beach, walked barefoot on the sand, and I told her how much I liked The Hague and the beach part. And she totally got it. Guess the idea of living there started to grow even more, and she loosely told me that she would consider moving to The Hague, if her boyfriend was up for it as well. So I clearly encouraged her – yeah, you can say that again, right?
Apartment
Not sure whether I was so convincing (for the record: I am not a real estate agent), but she did end up in The Hague: they had bought an apartment, which needed to be renovated first. So I was happy for her, when she told me about it. But of course it got crazier: when she sent me pictures of the renovation and her views, it turned out that she not only bought an apartment in The Hague, but also near the beach. In fact, one with a sea view – more or less at the same spot where I would watch people playing beach volleybal, and where I was doing my “visualization exercise”. Crazy, right?
Skyscraper View
It would have been great to live in that apartment, or any one next to hers, with the sea near your feet. But I have to admit something else: while I was thinking about a new place to live, I also imagined this penthouse apartment with some kind of skyscraper view. And even though it’s not a real penthouse, and not as high as the most common ones, I did end up in an apartment on the top floor, with such a city view. Guess the Universe decided to share my visualisations with my former colleague, who must be really enjoying her life over there now. In beautiful The Hague, with sea view, and upcoming beach volleybal.
