The Universe Writes Her Own Stories

Table of Blogs

I once wrote a novel – it had always been my dream to do so. A bit of a ladlit, with a magical and spiritual twist. And the funny thing was that even everything around it showed me some magic in my own life. Guess many things were connected, and to be honest: I am still hoping for some magical future events, regarding my writings.

Pleasure

When I was writing my manuscript, I was working for a spiritual magazine. And one of the people that I wanted to interview back then was a bestselling author from China, who had moved to The Netherlands for some reason. During the interview I asked her about many things, but also about her approach of writing and the influence of her spirituality on her writings. So she told me several things, and I wrote the article for my magazine. To my own surprise she was really impressed by my article, and the way I had written it down. In fact, when I told her that I was writing a novel, she told me that it would be her pleasure to read it. So I was honoured and kept it in mind.

Upcoming Novel

For the record: I had never read a novel of hers, but I promised myself that I would do so any time soon. In the meantime, apparently, she had started with her upcoming novel – something I found out when her publisher announced it several months later. And as promised before: by the time it was published, I bought the book, and I took it with me on my holidays to Barcelona, in order to read it over there.

By the way, the idea of living in Spain one day was actually born in that beautiful city. Right there, close to the beach – I still remember that spot. I even suggested the idea to my girlfriend, who kinda liked the idea as well. And when I started reading the new novel of ‘my bestelling author from China’ my jaw dropped: the main character was called ‘Chris’, like me.

Quite Magical

I have never asked her why she had called the main character ‘Chris’, but needless to say: I just loved it – because of the coincidence, or maybe even the honour. And when my own novel was published I realized something else, which was quite logical but at the same time magical as well. Since her surname started with the same two letters as mine, our books were standing next to each other – back to back – in the bookstores. I still remember being in one of the best-known bookstores of Amsterdam, standing in front of the section ‘novels’, and looking at my novel next to her novels. Like one day you are interviewing this bestseller author, who happened to love your writings, and the next day your own novel is standing literally next to hers for sale. That’s quite magical, right?

Charged Wish

Speaking of which, magical stuff, her character ‘Chris’ was from The Hague. And as you might know: when I got back from Madrid, my life in Spain, I did not only live in Almere (for one year), but also in The Hague (for two years). I loved that city, with the nice beach in Summer. And one day, when I had already moved out from my appartment over there, I had to rent a bike from the Dutch Railways, since my own bike got surprisingly lost inside the station of The Hague (temporarily, but still). Well, maybe it was meant to be, because some days before I had made a little prayer – I had ‘charged’ a wish of mine, that had to do with my writings and the New York Times. And guess what? When I wanted to take the bike from the Dutch Railways, it was put away next to another bike, which had a folded newspaper at its carrier. Out of curiosity I took it out, and it turned out to be… The New York Times. So let’s hope it was another sign for my future. And a sign that The Universe loves my writings as well. Or is she just writing about me, typing every word and event with love & care?
