Connecting & Tripping

Table of Blogs

Having the ability to connect with people at a deeper level, can be both interesting and challenging. Interesting, because you sense them and you can bring in your light very directly. Challenging, since you could lose yourself completely in the other person. And sometimes it’s like tripping, without any drugs but the energy from some person in front of you.

Party

It took the whole evening – the party had pretty much already come to an end – before I actually met this old college classmate of mine. I had spoken to some other old classmates, since they were part of the many guests, but I hadn’t seen nor spoken to her. Not until she was about to leave with her husband.

It was nice to meet her again, after so many years, and since they were about to go home by train to Amsterdam, I told them I would leave too, so we could buy some extra time to catch up. So we did. And even though it didn’t last more than 35 minutes – the whole walking to the train station, waiting there, and catching a train for a 15 minutes ride – we connected instantly. And not like re-connecting – we hadn’t been really friends at university, other than friendly acquaintances, because of our mutual friend who had organised the party – but more like having this empathic connection that I sometimes have with someone who is open at a deeper level. And in this case, it even got spacey.

Spain & Indonesia

We talked about different things. Like her career as a coach/advisor in the field of Work and Organisational Psychology, and the fact that she had been working for some months in Spain – for a project – which made her fall in love with the country the way I did (I had been living over there for many years). In fact, and it was part of her work, she could tell about the differences in interpersonal relations between Spain and The Netherlands. She could even picture herself living there. And when I mentioned my Indonesian roots, she told me she had been studying or working (I can’t remember exactly) there for some months as well. So she knew about the culture and the energy.

Energetic Way

Back in the days that we were studying at the same university, and the same degree, we didn’t have too much of a click. But at the train station – and we had only talked for 10 or 15 minutes or so – I had the idea that she could see me, she was getting me. And I sensed her, in an empathic, energetic way.

So while our energies were meeting each other, crawling around each other, I felt like being in a trip, a spacey one – in the meantime sitting next to each other in the train that took us to Amsterdam. Not sure why, but maybe it was just because of the instant depth, and the sincere connection made by two people who were able to open up – and in a way being vulnerable – at once. It could have been her specific energy as well, for sure. But it was just there. And don’t worry, we weren’t all over the place, with her husband sitting in front of us. At least, as far as I could tell. Besides, this was my interpretation of our encounter.

Meet Up For Coffee

When it was their stop to get out of the train, we told each other how great it was to have met again – guess I wasn’t the only one who felt this connection. So I told her, since I had just moved back to Amsterdam, that we should meet up for a coffee once, and that I would find her on Linkedin to connect. So she agreed, and even on Linkedin we told each other how nice it was to have met at our friend’s party.

But she didn’t reply to my invitation to have a coffee one day. I guess because we live in a world with forms and boundaries, and here on earth we have to deal with them; both as a constructive and a conflicting thing, especially for us empaths, when we want to connect and might lose ourselves in other people. So maybe our encounter, our connection, was a bit too much, for this world with certain forms and limitations.

And to be honest: maybe it wasn’t helping that she told me twice – scanning my face, with her husband standing next to her – that I had such a beautiful, Indonesian-looking face. Even though she said it with all her spontaneity and from a place of pureness, and no other intentions, as far as I can tell as an empath.
